EMC expands leading service provider initiative

By EMC Southern Africa
Johannesburg, 01 Nov 2000

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage, today unveiled its new xSPerience Provider Program, forming the framework for its strategic alliances with a range of leading providers. The new multi-tiered program, part of EMC`s billion-dollar, multi-year initiative to address the service provider market (announced in May 2000), encompasses numerous sales, services and engineering activities. EMC unveiled the program here at the Storage World Conference & Expo.

EMC is the leader in developing information infrastructures for service providers, enabling them to offer unique services and solutions to end-user customers on a contractual-fee basis. In less than a year, EMC has formed and expanded alliances with a variety of the world`s top service providers, including: Broadwing, Comdisco, EDS, Exodus, Genuity, Globix, Intel Online Services, Intira, Loudcloud, ManagedStorage International, NaviSite, Nuclio, PSINet, StorageWay, Telenisus and USinternetworking, among others. All are delivering the benefits of an EMC information infrastructure - E-Infostructure - to their customers.

The xSPerience Provider Program is a framework of EMC offerings that enable service providers to fully leverage EMC technology, methodologies, personnel and programs to achieve their business goals. This tiered service, support and consultation program, based on a service providers` implementation of EMC technology, provides access to EMC expertise in the areas of business planning, infrastructure planning and development, product integration and differentiation, as well as sales and marketing support.

"Time-to-market and time-to-success are crucial for service providers," said William Hurley, Program Manager at Boston-based Yankee Group. "Those that emerge as leaders in this burgeoning market will be those providing unique services. Through this program, EMC is helping service providers by integrating the capabilities of EMC`s systems, and expertise to help differentiate their offerings."

A primary component of the xSPerience Provider Program are new Velocity Services from EMC, which focus on helping service providers quickly establish and grow their business by fully utilizing EMC`s unique software functionality in conjunction with their own value-added offerings. EMC is also offering new training and certification programs that ensure service providers utilize best-practices in the operation and provisioning of their infrastructure. Additional details of the EMC xSPerience Provider Program can be found at www.emc.com/xsp.

PSINet, the Internet Super Carrier, is a charter member of the xSPerience Provider program, having deployed an EMC E-Infostructure to support its network of Global Web Hosting Centers (see Dec. 1999 announcement http://www.psinet.com/news/pr/99/dec9.html).

"As PSINet continues to create a platform for global e-business in the 21st century, we are looking to capitalize on the resources of EMC to compliment our own," said Harold S. "Pete" Wills, President and Chief Operating Officer of PSINet. "We`ve worked closely with EMC to offer an information storage service to our customers that is unmatched in the industry."

Joseph Tucci, EMC`s President and Chief Operating Officer, said, "In this rapidly growing market, experience counts. The xSPerience Provider Program allows providers to capitalize on EMC`s experience in building and deploying the world`s most scalable, available and flexible information infrastructures. As the service provider to service providers, EMC is not only supplying technology, it is using all of its resources to help service providers build and deploy the proper foundation to allow their business to rapidly succeed and grow without limits."

EDS Information Solutions, also a charter member, has deployed an E-Infostructure to support its managed storage services (see May 2000 announcement http://www.eds.com/news/news_releases/news_release_template.shtml?rowid=1428).

Doug Frederick, President of EDS Information Solutions, added, "A team of EMC professionals worked closely with members of our organization to define and develop the high-value storage services we provide to our clients. By deploying solutions built on the EMC platform, our clients are able to obtain fast access to the information they need while eliminating up-front capital investments. The unique EDS offering allows them to quickly grow into their storage needs in a flexible, reliable, secure and managed fashion."
