EMC expands solution set for managing IT service delivery

New software for automated IT governance analysis, advanced network problem management, and IT process automation help enterprises and service providers automate data centre operations.
Johannesburg, 16 Oct 2007

EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, has further strengthened the company`s IT service delivery management offerings with key additions to its software portfolio.

Aimed at helping customers better automate their data centre operations, the company has announced EMC IT Compliance Analyzer - Application Edition, EMC Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager, EMC IT Process Centre, and EMC IT Performance Reporter - Network Edition.

The solutions are key pieces of EMC`s IT service delivery portfolio, a comprehensive set of management software based on EMC Smarts and EMC ControlCenter technologies.

Aimed at helping customers achieve higher degrees of automation for their data centre operations, EMC provides customers with end-to-end service visibility and control across their complex IT information infrastructures.

"Over the past decade, the sheer number and management complexity of elements in the storage, server, network and application domains have made it nearly impossible for companies to get a handle on their IT resources and the business and information services they support," said Dennis Drogseth, Vice-President of Enterprise Management Associates.

"To get the most of their IT investments, companies today demand a clear line-of-sight across their IT infrastructures, and the ability to manage disparate domains holistically."

"IT is facing a perfect storm of information explosion, from VOIP to IPTV to secure content, and management fragmentation. This has put tremendous stress on IT`s ability to ensure the delivery of key information, business, and infrastructure services - both new and existing," said Alex Robertson, Technology Solutions Manager at EMC. "The key differentiator behind EMC`s IT service delivery strategy is our ability to tie the information infrastructure together - across what are now very disjointed domains - making it possible for customers to manage the entire information delivery chain."

He continued: "By delivering end-to-end service visibility and control across silos, only EMC provides users with the line-of-site they need to manage their IT infrastructures from an application perspective. Customers benefit from lower IT operational costs and increased efficiencies, resulting in more effective service delivery across the business."

Announced today (see separate press releases), EMC`s new management software solutions around IT compliance analysis, IPv6 network problem management, and storage service delivery further bolster this vision and include:

* EMC IT Compliance Analyzer - Application Edition: The market`s premier application solution, helping IT to ensure configuration compliance of business-critical applications with internal IT governance policies, regulatory requirements, and IT best practices. Leveraging the power of EMC Smarts Application Discovery Manager, the software performs real-time analysis and alerts IT managers when business-critical applications violate their compliance policies.
* EMC Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager: One of the market`s first solutions to fully support native IPv6 networks and one of the only network management solutions to automate the end-to-end problem correlation and analysis of IPv4 and IPv6 networks. With Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager, customers can now effectively comply with IPv6 standards, simplify management and increase IP network availability.
* EMC IT Process Centre: First in a family of modules designed to automate IT processes and tasks for enterprise customers across server, application, network, and storage domains. This initial solution focuses on more efficient provisioning and management of storage requests, enabling IT operations to meet service-level agreements (SLAs) and lower costs.
* EMC IT Performance Reporter - Network Edition: Delivers real-time trending and historical data reporting on network availability and performance issues. With the ability to work seamlessly with other Smarts solutions, IT Performance Reporter enables proactive problem management and capacity planning, and accurately forecasts future network demand.

EMC offers advanced solutions helping customers automate their data centre operations. With a unique set of products enabling closed-loop automation, EMC`s products conduct comprehensive discovery, compliance, analysis, automation and visualisation across the IT infrastructure. This automation process enables companies to discover what IT resources they have, check for compliance to policies, isolate root-cause problems, and immediately fix any issues. Leveraging this model-based intelligent software, customers are now able to take a service-centric approach to IT management and gain insight into how their information infrastructures support key business services.
