Leading information infrastructure solutions company EMC has identified South Africa as one of its growth markets, with an escalating demand for product-related training.
In response to this market need, EMC has established an Education Services business unit within EMC Southern Africa, and invested in a dedicated local resource to drive the business.
Markus Rall, the Education Solutions Consultant appointed to head up the new offering, says there is a huge demand for EMC product-related training in South Africa. “As in other parts of the world, there is a distinct shortage of storage technology skills in this country, and EMC recognises that trained customers are the fundamental key to the future success of its operation in South Africa,” he says.
Rall has four years' experience in EMC Education Services, with training experience in topics such as information, storage and management, backup products and VMware.
“Our objective is to enable our partners, customers and South Africans in general to gain a better understanding of storage technology,” Rall says. “Through EMC's Academic Alliance Programme, we will also be working closely with universities around South Africa.”
Through the Academic Alliance Programme, EMC Southern Africa's Education Services business unit will provide training courses to professors at local universities so that they can, in turn, deliver the training to their students. Rather than being based on EMC products, the training courses will focus on technologies.
“For example, in the storage arena, students will start off with simple concepts such as 'What is a disk?', and 'How is it working?', and the training will culminate in an in-depth discussion of disk replication. The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of storage in general, and the technologies around storage,” Rall says.
According to Rall, EMC Southern Africa will also be focusing on providing targeted training for financial services companies, to help them meet international standards and comply with governance regulations.
