EMC has announced its OpenScale storage asset and financial management programme, which is capable of being deployed across the entire networked storage infrastructure with automated billing capabilities to provide a cost-effective way to manage storage resources.
"OpenScale streamlines often-lengthy procurement processes by simplifying the process of acquiring additional capacity to meet both expected and unexpected storage needs," says Alex Robertson, Technology Solutions Group manager, EMC SA. "It allows customers to allocate additional resources on demand without having to pay for unnecessary storage or onsite technical assistance."
Robertson says OpenScale automated billing employs the same underlying "agentless" collector technologies found within EMC AutoAdvice software. The collector automatically detects when storage resources are allocated by the business and provides that information to the automated billing application without disrupting the systems environment.
EMC Automated Networked Storage and programmes such as OpenScale are prerequisites to enabling customers to achieve the benefits of utility computing models - including reduced complexity and variable costs - without having to surrender architectural control or best-of-breed technologies.
EMC`s OpenScale storage asset and financial management programme comprises various financing options that align customers` storage budgets with their actual storage consumption.
"This programme is designed to help large customers with growing, multi-terabyte installations and complex purchasing processes," notes Robertson. "It shortens procurement cycles, ensures predictable pricing for storage capacity and functionality, and reduces the need to purchase storage resources in advance of actual requirements.

OpenScale provides automated billing for EMC Symmetrix, EMC CLARiiON, EMC Connectrix and EMC Celerra systems as well as EMC TimeFinder and SRDF software.
