EMC Philippines intros 'virtual storage'
EMC Philippines has unveiled a technology for 'advanced virtual storage', reports Business World.
This allows organisations to improve data management, consolidation, delivery, and consumption, says the company.
“Organisations have to employ a virtual storage roadmap to save and maintain their digital information. Digital information grows 60 to 70 times a year regardless of the existing social and economic disturbances,” says country manager Ronnie Latinazo.
Canada govt begins virtual recruitment
The Canadian federal government's Public Service Commission is going virtual to recruit new people to join the country's rapidly aging ranks of civil servants, states CTV.
In September, they'll open an island on Second Life, an online universe that sees about 830 000 people wander hundreds of virtual communities each month.
The Public Service Commission will have information booths, presentations on jobs, and a chance to interact live with current federal bureaucrats and ask questions.
Dell strengthens virtualisation presence
Dell is extending its virtualisation offering through the purchase of Scalent, a provider of server-virtualisation management software, announced last week, says Bloomberg Business Week.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dell plans to roll Scalent's infrastructure management software into its own Advanced Infrastructure Manager data centre software package. Scalent's Infrastructure Manager solution provides the ability to manage both physical and virtual servers without making any physical changes to the network.
It works with both VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors. The company pitches its software for managing rapid and dynamic deployments of servers, and also as a disaster recovery tool.
