
EMC sees surge in sales
Tech storage giant EMC has reported record sales, earnings and cash flow for the first quarter, reports CRN.
EMC reported revenue of $3.9 billion in the quarter, up 23% from $3.2 billion in the same period one year ago.
Joe Tucci, chairman and CEO, says the company is seeing pent-up demand from last year when many companies curtailed IT spending: "This quarter was the best first-quarter in EMC's history.”
IBM drives tiered storage
IBM has unveiled storage products designed to automate the movement of data to appropriate storage media; making it easier for users to use analytics to gain insight from the data, states Computerworld.
IBM's DS8700 disc storage system includes IBM's System Storage Easy Tier feature, which uses performance monitoring software to move active data to faster solid-state drives.
IBM also introduced a tape library device for storing unstructured long-term retention data that offers up to 3TB.
Dell smartphone boosts storage
The Dell Lightning will be among the first smartphones to come with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, says Brighthand.com.
The Dell Lightning will run Microsoft's next OS on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM.
It will include 1GB of internal storage bundled with an 8GB microSD card.
