EMC snaps us storage company
Reuters reports.
The world's biggest maker of corporate data storage equipment did not disclose the terms of the deal, but said it would provide additional details at EMC World, which will be held from 21 to 24 May.
"We fully expect XtremIO technology, once introduced to market, to have a tremendous impact on our customers' ability to leverage the unique advantages of all-flash storage across many of their most demanding applications,” PC Advisor quotes Pat Gelsinger, EMC's president and CFO, as saying.
According to eWeek, like most of its competitors, XtremIO has a scale-out, all-flash clustered storage system for storing primary data from several sources that include dedicated servers, databases and virtualised environments. With workloads becoming larger by the week, faster processing is a highly sought-after commodity.
Other key players in this sector include Fusion i-o, Violin Memory, SolidFire, Kaminario and Tintri. It would be no surprise to many data storage sector observers to see one or more of these companies also being acquired in the next few weeks or months.
