EMC has announced that both the Symmetrix and CLARiiON families of networked information storage systems have completed the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Conformance Testing Programme (SNIA-CTP).
Alex Robertson, Technology Solutions Manager, EMC SA, says passing the SNIA-CTP underscores EMC`s commitment to the implementation of open standards. According to SNIA, products that pass the SNIA-CTP for SMI-S (Storage Management Initiative Specification) deliver the benefits of standardised management.
"Symmetrix and Symmetrix DMX systems shipped since 1997 and all CLARiiON and CLARiiON CX systems shipped since 2000, including Dell/EMC branded models, are capable of being managed by applications implementing the SNIA SMI-S," says Robertson.
"Representing one third of all vendor products that passed the SNIA-CTP, this range of current- and prior-generation systems delivers the industry`s broadest storage platform support for SMI-S."
In addition, the company has announced that its flagship EMC ControlCenter and EMC Visual families of storage resource management software now support the SMI-S standard. This, says Robertson, expands EMC`s leadership in providing unified management for customers` multi-vendor tiered storage environments.
"Through open management across new and currently installed systems, EMC is helping customers apply their information lifecycle management strategies across the industry`s broadest range of tiered networked storage systems," Robertson concludes.
EMC Corporation is the world leader in information storage systems, software, networks and services, providing automated networked storage solutions that enable organisations of all sizes to better and more cost-effectively manage, protect and share their information.
