EMC to acquire Archer
EMC has signed a definitive agreement to acquire governance, risk and compliance provider Archer Technologies, reports Information Management.
On the heels of four 2009 acquisitions, the information infrastructure and consulting provider hopes to see Archer bridge the gap between the technology and security levels in the business, according to Paul Stamp, senior product marketing manager for EMC.
Archer's out-of-the-box solutions, including policy, risk, compliance, enterprise, incident, vendor, threat, business continuity and audit management, are built on a framework that allows users to tailor solutions to their requirements, states EMC.
Cloud to improve continuity readiness
A relatively new IT architecture choice, cloud computing, is rising in popularity as a disaster recovery strategy component, states TechTarget.
Cloud computing is seen by many companies as a way to ensure the resiliency of critical applications such as CRM, e-mail and document sharing.
According to Gartner at their most recent Data Centre Summit, "by 2014, 15% of large enterprises will use a combination of private infrastructure and public cloud services in order to improve recovery and continuity readiness".
ioSafe delivers 'indestructible storage'
Storage start-up ioSafe has unveiled its idea of indestructible storage, the Solo SSD, which it claims can survive almost any shock, drop, flood or even fire hazard business disaster can throw at it, says Techworld.
Described as being the drive equivalent of an aircraft black box, the Solo SSD external drive features several layers of protection, starting with its 'ArmorPlate' steel outer shell, which can help it survive a two-storey building collapse, including crush forces and a 20-foot drop into rubble.
The drive is also sealed to help it survive fire for up to half an hour at temperatures of up to 1550 degrees Fahrenheit (843 degrees centigrade), and is said to be able to survive full submersion in salt water for up to 30 days.
