Emergia Solutions has launched a revolutionary single sign on (SSO) solution from Datakey / Safenet, Safenet Axis, with the highest security features and the added advantage of lower implementation and operational costs than competing products.
SSO enables easier management of passwords, improves password security and reduces the IT administrative costs of password management. The Safenet Axis solution uses smart cards to manage passwords and reduces human intervention in the creation and management of passwords. The user only has to remember one password / PIN to access the card, with other application-specific passwords stored on the card.
The key driver for the Emergia SSO solution is a patent pending technology named Rapid Deploy TechnologyTM (RDT), a Datakey / Safenet innovation. RDT enables the rapid deployment of SSO across the enterprise by automatically integrating the pre-set policies for passwords, security and network permissions into the Datakey / Safenet solution, enabling quick deployment of SSO.
Another key element of RDT is the ability to deploy policy clients on users` PC`s in a matter of hours for large enterprises by pushing the software to users` PC`s. This obviates the need to send an IT administrator around the company to deploy software on PC`s. Through the Safenet Axis Management Centre (AMC) and RDT, the IT department can train all applications ONCE to manage the relevant passwords.
This training process incorporates technology and processes that are unique in the industry. It has the ability to address the various Graphical User Interface (GUI) technologies employed by applications without being dependent on costly and time-consuming scripting or editing of .ini files. Password changes are managed automatically via AMC and password complexity is increased. The solution also allows for periodic password changes without user intervention, further increasing password security.
According to Emergia Solutions MD, Eugene Smith, "Axis in general relieves the user of password responsibility at low cost, and enables the company to control access to networks and applications. However, Axis has a SmartLogon feature which, subject to company policy, still allows users to self-manage some passwords separately from enterprise-required passwords. Users can thus use SmartLogon to manage passwords for private use such as online banking."
Safenet Axis is lower cost and an easier solution to deploy than competing products because much of it is automated, with passwords learnt through a drag-and-drop process with no server intervention. It can also be integrated with physical systems to provide an employee badge, access to garages and doors, and network access. There is also the option to replace the PIN access to the card with fingerprint recognition, further enhancing security. Axis includes support for PKI - including instant PKI certificate deployment and automatic recognition of an enterprise`s PKI server.
"In case users worry about it," says Smith, "Axis has a smart card recovery feature, which enables the quick recovery of information originally on the card. The passwords can then be changed instantly and the user has access again and the lost card will not work."
