Emerging compute models tie

Intel's latest study finds there's no clear leader among the top four emerging compute models: virtual hosted desktop, blade PC, OS streaming, and application streaming are in a dead heat insofar as physical deployment goes, writes eChannel Line.

With no clear leader, Intel embarked on the research as a part of its future product planning process, explained Mike Ferron-Jones, Intel's Emerging Models Programme manager.

Ferron-Jones said Intel would plan accordingly by developing technologies for all four models.

LinMin upgrades solution

LinMin, provider of award-winning LinMin Bare Metal Provisioning, recently unveiled Release 5.3, featuring an enhanced user interface that makes it easy for first-time users to remotely install Linux and Windows on servers, blades, workstations and virtual machines within minutes of downloading the product, states Host Search.

LinMin 5.3 includes provisioning support for recently released or soon to be released Linux as well as 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003.

The combination of breadth of platform support, ease of use and affordability all contribute to LinMin's adoption in companies from AT&T and Kodak to small and medium companies.

Iomega enters home server market

The newest fad in storage is home servers - not just external hard drives or network-attached storage devices, but full systems designed to store and share content among PCs and on the network, says PC Mag.

Microsoft jumpstarted the market with Windows Home Server, but few manufacturers have adopted the platform so far.

Iomega entered the market Monday, in advance of the Consumer Electronics Show to be held in Las Vegas this week, with the Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive, a home server running a streamlined version of the Linux operating system.
