Employees neglect

More employees are ignoring data policies and engaging in activities that could put a company at risk, states PC World.

According to a survey released by the Ponemon Institute, a large number of employees copy secure data to USB drives or turn off security settings in mobile devices like laptops, which could put a company's data at risk.

Around 69% of the 967 IT professionals surveyed said they copied confidential company data to USB sticks, even though it was against the rules. Some even lost USB sticks that store confidential corporate data, but did not report it immediately, the survey said.

CMA joins 'Terminate the Rate'

The Communications Management Association (CMA) has joined 3 and BT's 'Terminate the Rate' campaign to lower mobile termination rates (MTRs), says Mobile News.

The CMA represents ICT professionals and enterprises using communications, networking and ICT for business advantage.

“Our members spend more than £15 billion (R198 billion) a year in the communications market so unfair levels of MTRs are a big issue. They represent some of the biggest mobile services spenders in the UK and so are disproportionately affected by these excessive charges,” says CMA chair Carolyn Kimber.

Ericsson punts green metrics

Ericsson has introduced new metrics to measure 'green' in the telecommunications industry, reports TMCnet.

The Sweden-based company says its network IP edge and metro platforms consume the lowest amount of energy using the new measurement tools. The new metrics are designed to be more in line with how service providers monetise their business and plan infrastructure investment, Ericsson said.

The metrics focus on power per service compared to the traditional way of power per port.

In developing the metrics, executives explained the industry can't operate on the current metrics available, adding that new standards should be put in place to boost energy efficiency.
