Emulex shipping single-chip CNAs

Emulex is shipping its single-chip converged network adapters (CNAs), but channel over Ethernet (FCOE) won't be an option until later this year, reports Enterprise Storage Forum.

QLogic has had a multi-month head-start over its CNA rival, including design wins with IBM x and p series and BladeCenter servers and endorsements from EMC and NetApp. But Shaun Walsh, vice-president of corporate marketing at Emulex, says a few months head-start doesn't mean much in a market that won't fully materialise until 2011.

A lack of a single-chip CNA doesn't appear to have hurt Emulex too badly, as the company reported 160% sequential quarterly growth in CNA sales.

Nexus switch, IBM blades integrate

Cisco Systems has unveiled a variant of its Nexus switch that can be tucked up inside another server maker's blade servers - the Nexus 4000, states The Register.

The Cisco Nexus 4001I switch module brings support for converged enhanced Ethernet (CEE) features and the FCOE protocol that Cisco has woven into its Nexus 5000 top-of-rack switches.

IBM is the first customer for the Nexus 4000 switch, which was rolled out by Big Blue as part of a networking refresh this week for its BladeCenter blade servers.

Integrated IPsec solution offered

Interphase, an embedded networking and communications solutions company, has partnered with SafeNet, an information provider, to offer a pre-integrated, carrier-grade Internet protocol security (IPsec), network security hardware and software solution, according to Reuters.

The QuickSec 5.0 toolkit from SafeNet has been integrated with the Interphase iSPAN 36CA OCTEON Plus Advanced Packet Processor and iSPAN 55CA Quad GE to PCI-x Packet Processor.

This integration easily saturates a 4GB IPsec network link with, millions of tunnels implemented to address the need for the highest security performance in both AdvancedTCA architecture and rack mount server network elements.
