Emulex joins Microsoft`s Summit 2000

Emulex joins Microsoft, EMC and Industry-leading partners to showcase end-to-end Fibre Channel storage area network solutions
Johannesburg, 23 Mar 2000

Emulex Corporation, an industry leader in Channel products and technology, announced today that it has joined Microsoft, EMC and other top technology industry leaders at Microsoft`s Summit 2000 for the unveiling of the new Microsoft Partner Solutions Center (MPSC).

The MPSC is a one-of-a-kind facility that is dedicated to providing worldwide providers access to a unique multi-vendor environment where they can build and test rapidly deployable end-to-end solutions and services for customers. The Emulex LP8000 fibre channel host adapter is used by the MPSC to demonstrate high-performance, scalable SAN connectivity.

"The Microsoft Partner Solutions Center takes a significant step in demonstrating the capabilities of Windows 2000 and Windows NT based fibre channel SANs in high-availability commercial grade applications," said Mike Smith, vice president worldwide marketing at Emulex. "Microsoft`s use of the LP8000 provides an important endorsement for our Windows 2000 and Windows NT solutions," he added.

"The MPSC showcases the ability to integrate proven technologies to deliver full-function, commercial grade solutions for our customers," said Fredrik Winsnes, director, Network Solutions Group. "The Emulex LightPulse LP8000 in the MPSC provides the performance and scalability needed for a range of Windows 2000 and Windows NT based solutions."

The LP8000 provides a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise applications, including full fabric support using F_Port and FL_Port connections, high data integrity, full-duplex operation, data buffering to support up to 10 kilometres of cabling, and support for all fibre channel topologies and service classes 2 and 3. The LP8000 features GBIC or embedded interfaces, providing customers with flexibility to support a full range of cabling options, including copper, multi-mode fibre and single-mode fibre.

The 64-bit, PCI-based LP8000 is supported by a rich suite of software, providing support for storage protocol (SCSI), network protocol (IP), as well as multi-protocol (SCSI & IP) operation, enabling advanced SAN and network applications to be run over the same Fibre Channel infrastructure. Emulex provides a wide range of operating system support, including Windows NT/2000, Solaris, AIX, UnixWare and NetWare.

The LP8000 is part of a broad family of Fibre Channel products offered by Emulex to address the needs of both mission-critical enterprise applications and open systems computing. The Emulex Fibre Channel family also includes the high-performance PCI-based LP7000E and open-server LP850 host adapters, the new 2Gbps LP9000 host adapter family, the new S-Bus based LP8000S host adapter, the price-performance optimized LP3000 host adapter and the industry`s first digital re-timing Fibre Channel hub, the LH5000.
