The RC&C Engineering Department has an exciting road ahead. For starters, as a direct consequence of the sharp increase in the rand/dollar exchange rate, production of Futronic television will be relocated to South Africa in 2007.
Currently being produced in China, it will be a proud addition to the portfolio of products coming off the production line. The plant is also gearing up for a number of changes set to take place locally.
These include:
* The planned introduction of digital broadcasting in South Africa during 2008, which will mean additional channels (ie, SABC 4 and 5). Digital broadcasting is already being used in Australia and Europe.
* The anticipated switching off of all television transmitters in 2015 and the concomitant change to decoders.
