Enhanced version of VERITAS remote storage for Microsoft Exchange extends support into the enterprise

VERITAS Software, the data availability company, today introduced version 2.0 of VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange, a hierarchical storage management solution designed to minimise storage space on Microsoft Exchange servers. Reducing backup and restore times by moving attachments to secondary storage devices, VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange now includes full support for Microsoft Windows 2000 as well as integration with VERITAS NetBackup, providing enterprise-level customers with a complete backup and data protection solution for their mission-critical systems. In addition, version 2.0 of VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange, along with VERITAS NetBackup, has been added to VERITAS Software`s family of Solutions for Microsoft Exchange.

With the size of Exchange Information Stores growing exponentially, time taken to perform backups and restores threatens to disrupt daily business operations. Moving older message attachments to secondary storage mediums allows users to keep more data online without increasing the size of the Information Store. Exchange clients retain complete access to all of the message attachments that have been moved by VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange, regardless of their location. New Windows 2000 support provides a migration path for users running on the Windows 2000 platform.

New integration with VERITAS NetBackup

VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange is now integrated with VERITAS NetBackup, offering customers a means of sharing expensive tape hardware between backup and migration applications. Furthermore, VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange offers benefits to VERITAS NetBackup administrators by dramatically reducing both the amount of Exchange data requiring backup and the window of time needed to back up Exchange. With the dynamic integration between VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange and both VERITAS Backup Exec and VERITAS NetBackup, customers benefit from the capabilities of a complete Exchange solution.

Additionally, version 2.0 of VERITAS RSE and VERITAS NetBackup, collectively referred to as the VERITAS Protection Suite for Microsoft Exchange - Datacenter, now comprise phase three of the VERITAS Solutions for Microsoft Exchange program. When used in conjunction, the two products offer a total Exchange solution providing integrated data-center strength backup and recovery, and complete protection and space management of Exchange environments.

VERITAS Solutions for Microsoft Exchange

The VERITAS Solutions for Microsoft Exchange program, introduced in July 2000, initially focused on backup and data protection with the availability of the VERITAS Protection Suite for Microsoft Exchange - Workgroups (a special bundle consisting of VERITAS Backup Exec and version 1.0 of VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange). Adding VERITAS ClusterX and VERITAS Volume Manager to the mix of solutions, the second phase of the program addressed the need for improved online and clustered exchange environments with 24 x forever accessibility. The combination of data protection, clustering and online management products offers a complete solution for enhanced reliability in both single-node and clustered Exchange environments.
