Enterasys Networks, a Siemens Enterprise Communications company, today announced Enterasys Data Center Manager (DCM), a powerful unified management solution that delivers automation, visibility and control over the data centre fabric, including network, servers, storage and applications, across both physical and virtual environments.
Enterasys DCM is part of Enterasys' data centre strategy, a series of new offerings and partnerships designed to provide customers with open and highly automated data centre network solutions.
“Data centre managers are under constant pressure to improve processes, reduce costs and manage increasingly disparate resources, while continuing to deploy new technologies such as virtualisation,” said Chris Crowell, president and CEO at Enterasys.
“By providing integrated tracking and monitoring of virtual machines (VMs) and applications and an integrated view of virtual server and network environments, Enterasys Data Center Manager allows IT administrators to bring together the 'islands' that exist in the data centre. Furthermore, Enterasys DCM provides vendor-agnostic support, enabling companies to leverage existing investments and reduce overall total cost of ownership (TCO).”
Integrated tracking, monitoring of virtual machines
Enterasys DCM provides IT with a tool for tracking and historical reporting on virtual machine movement, allowing users to ensure the proper network resources are allocated when a VM is provisioned, no matter where it is on the network. The implementation of the integrated Enterasys network and VM management system allows the IT administrator to group virtual machines into supporting business roles, solving virtualisation security concerns.
Centralised view of virtual server, network environments
Enterasys DCM provides a unified provisioning process, bridging the traditional divide among the server, networking and storage teams to ensure each has a comprehensive view of virtual server and network environments. As an integrated network and virtual machine VM management system, Enterasys DCM ensures that the proper network resources are allocated when a VM is provisioned, no matter where it is on the network. This is achieved with DCM's unique ability to apply individual policies to various data objects in the switching fabric, solving the challenge of virtual machine sprawl.
Vendor agnostic integration with virtualisation platforms
Enterasys DCM easily integrates with popular server virtualisation products from Citrix, Microsoft and VMware. This capability is unique to Enterasys, providing the IT organisation with unparalleled flexibility to choose from any of the leading server virtualisation vendors. Enterasys data centre offerings are designed to seamlessly interoperate with multiple virtualisation, server and storage vendors.
Customer quotes
“Our experience in managing a dynamic, virtualised environment helped us understand and plan for the challenges associated with building our new data centre. Enterasys solutions provide us with an integrated and comprehensive view of our physical and virtual environment, with the ability to keep track of applications as they move from server to server. This type of visibility greatly reduces the time we need to spend reconfiguring the network and co-ordinating changes across the IT team, freeing us to focus on higher priority projects such as new application roll-outs.” - Charles Desourdy, associate CIO for the UMass Medical School
“Following our successful beta test, we are excited to fully deploy Enterasys Data Center Manager and recognise the advantages of this solution that allows us to view and manage all of our data centre resources in one unified solution. Like many organisations, new data centre technologies such as virtualisation have significantly increased complexity throughout our IT infrastructure.
Enterasys DCM allows us to reap the benefits of these new technologies, while streamlining visibility, control and management of physical and virtual resources.” - Udo W"urtz, managing director at Paragon Data
