Enterasys launches next-generation VPN gateway

Johannesburg, 20 Aug 2001

Enterprise network solutions provider, Enterasys Networks has announced a new series of VPN (virtual private network) gateways.

Dubbed The Aurorean ANG-1100, the series is the first product developed at Enterasys` new R&D facility in Toronto. It is targeted at small office VPN applications that use broadband Internet services such as DSL.

"The introduction of the ANG-1100 series of Aurorean VPN gateways provides the security, availability and mobility required by enterprise small offices," says Martin May, regional director of Enterasys Networks SA.

"They deliver high performance for remote office applications and offer connection simplicity for non-technical workers."

The ANG-1100 series supports any operating system and is targeted for use by telecommuters and small offices such as retail sites and insurance agencies.

It protects the small office user from hacker attempts by using Network Address Translation (NAT) and a packet filtering firewall. The ANG-1100 also allows private Internet browsing through split tunnelling and supports alternate paths to the central site using Aurorean`s Auto-link Recovery high availability architecture.

The ANG-1100 is available in two plug-and-play models. The ANG-1102 offers two 10BaseT Ethernet ports for easy connectivity to any Internet access device. The ANG-1105 includes a 4-port 10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet hub and embedded hardware acceleration for more than 3Mbps 3DES performance. Both models feature Aurorean`s EZ-IPsec auto-configuration feature for one-button VPN connectivity.

In a related announcement Enterasys has also released the NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool, a new secure, centralised Web-based management application for the ANG-1100 series. The NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool features auto-discovery of existing and new ANG-1100s, remote firmware updates, and centralised SNMP monitoring.
