Enterasys Networks announces XSR-1850 Security Router for high performance, secure remote office networking

Johannesburg, 21 Nov 2002

Enterasys Networks Inc, a leading broadline provider of enterprise networking solutions, has announced the new Enterasys Security Router 1850 (XSR-1850), a full-featured security router designed for enterprise branch offices.

This new product extends the application of the Enterasys Security Router 1800 series by increasing performance, redundancy and providing additional expansion options and memory. Enterasys Security Routers provide secure, high-availability remote office networking by combining a full suite of IP router features, a broad range of WAN interfaces and enterprise-class virtual private networking (VPN) - all at breakthrough pricing.

"Enterprise remote offices are increasingly vulnerable to internal and external security threats. Leading-edge organisations need ways to better secure their intellectual property, especially at these remote locations. With the Enterasys Security Router 1850, we continue to deliver a high-performance solution with many options for future security features and applications, while still offering best-in-class performance," said Gil Arbel, executive vice-president of product management at Enterasys Networks.

Enterasys Security Routers are a robust alternative to Cisco 1700 and 2600 series routers. Comprehensive IP routing and security functions, including VPN acceleration and unmatched price-performance, deliver superior value. Enterasys Security Routers are a perfect fit for enterprise organisations that require highly reliable service delivery and can benefit from reduced costs.

Enterasys also announced VPN firmware for the Enterasys Security Router 1800 series. Available immediately, the standards-based VPN feature-set is built to meet demanding enterprise requirements for site-to-site, extranet, or remote access connectivity. Leveraging the VPN accelerator built into every device, Enterasys Security Routers deliver industry-leading performance and maximise secure connectivity between remote sites and teleworkers. Existing Enterasys Security Router customers can add VPN locally or remotely through a firmware upgrade.

"With the Enterasys Security Router`s VPN features, Navigator Networks can extend secure data transmissions from our community-based healthcare network to healthcare agencies outside of the metro area, while meeting the proposed HIPPA regulations for our clients. The XSR 1800 series routers are providing the required security for the Monroe County Department of Health to deliver public safety notifications to area hospitals and emergency response agencies," said Cory Brown, senior systems engineer for Navigator Networks, Inc. "The XSR 1850 fills the right performance niche at a very cost-effective price point as we work to expand our healthcare network."

The Enterasys Security Router 1850 and VPN feature set are available immediately. For more information, visit Enterasys` Web site at http://www.enterasys.com/xpedition.
