Enterprise Content and Wireless (ECW) today announced its first set of mobile application solutions. These solutions offer a comprehensive framework for extending the reach of enterprise information and processes to any mobile device.
Built on industry standard technologies such as XML, Web services and SyncML, they provide both online and offline services to mobile devices. The solutions also offer an infrastructure that can manage devices so that enterprises can securely deploy and control mobile devices on a server-centric, services-oriented platform.
Designed to be universal in nature, the LSM solutions will run on most Symbian devices, Palm OS-based devices and Microsoft devices, and across any network. These optimised mobile applications possess hard and soft features and functions that are unique to mobile device requirements, such as mobility, personality, ruggedness and flexibility.
LSM applications are able to provide end-users with added value, including anytime, anywhere access, the ability to pinpoint users` locations, and flexibility in arranging tasks. The solutions are modular, and can be rapidly implemented and deployed to any number of mobile users wherever they operate geographically and there is no requirement for client-side maintenance.
The three initial application solutions from LSM are:
* KeySync, an application that is based on the international standard data synchronisation protocol, SyncML, that provides for the synchronisation of data in an online/offline situation to and from mobile devices via its transparent server-based synchronisation engine. It stores the required information locally on the device for use by the user or mobile application as and when necessary. The user can update the data or add some information to be synchronised back to the central business systems. Only changes in data are synchronised to ensure optimised bandwidth.
* KeyFrame Development Service that is based upon the mobile development kit authored by LSM. It allows the LSM team of skilled application developers to rapidly build the most complex of solutions. By combining the extensive systems development and integration experiences already resident within the ECW group of companies, and with the wireless software development tools and knowledge, typical systems life cycles development times and maintenance costs can be significantly reduced. Whether there is a requirement to mobilise an ERP investment, to integrate with a CRM solution or simply a need to create a mobile data capture operation, LSM can build reliable solutions faster than existing conventional methods.
* KeyProcess Bridge, an application that addresses the `mobilisation of business processes` from within an open XML compliant workflow system. Enterprise content management systems can be split into three fundamental components: process, collaboration and content. The workflow software elements typically fit within the `process` modules of the ECM systems. KeyProcess Bridge is a component within the LSM framework designed with the primary purpose of addressing the `mobilisation of business processes` that are managed in an open, XML compliant workflow system.
"The `mobilisation` of companies and their end-users to exploit current and emerging technologies is a key requirement within the majority of organisations," commented Ray Dalgarno, MD of Lava Systems Mobile. "Thus, the demand for device agnostic applications to utilise these technologies is exploding and hence our developments oriented to capitalising on this trend. Further applications of this nature are already under development within LSM and will be announced over the coming months."
