Enterprise model to support IT planning

Research and Markets has added the “IT strategy and architecture: Creating an enterprise model to support IT strategic planning” report to its offering, says Market Watch.

According to the report, IT organisations are under pressure to develop an effective strategy and to deliver services that can support changing requirements. An architectural approach can offer a useful framework within which organisations can plan and execute IT strategy.

Research and Markets says the future direction of IT delivery is moving towards shared services, therefore, when developing an IT strategy, due consideration must be given to the methods and models likely to be deployed to deliver IT as a service.

Fusion-io unveils solution

Steve Wozniak has joined the board of Fusion-io, a provider of enterprise solid-state architecture and high-performance I/O solutions, reports Business Wire.

The Apple co-founder will advise Fusion-io's CEO, Don Basile, on future market trends, consult with senior management on company R&D efforts and product road-mapping, and introduce Fusion-io to key strategic alliances in the industry, as well as sales opportunities.

The company has since released the ioSAN, the first networked enterprise SSD, which enables enterprises to create a complete storage area network with multi-terabytes of low-cost, tiered storage and high-speed enterprise networking, using an off-the-shelf server.

Sun introduces green architecture

Sun Microsystems, along with Fujitsu, is introducing an energy-efficient server platform that is intended to address heavy-duty tasks such as server virtualisation, consolidation and Web 2.0 database transactions, says ZDnet.

The Sparc Enterprise T5440 server line runs on the UltraSparc T2 Plus architecture with the Solaris 10 operating system and is designed in a 4u configuration.

The upgradable chip multi-threaded server can accommodate as many as four chips, allowing it to handle the equivalent of up to 256 threads and 512GB of memory on one platform.
