Entries open for Adobe design competition

Adobe Systems SA has opened entries for the 2006 Adobe Design Achievement Awards, a student design competition that recognises talented and promising students who combine technology with creative arts.

The competition, now in its sixth year, is open to student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers and computer artists from design, film and broadcast institutions. The competition`s categories are: live action, motion graphics, environmental graphics/packaging, print multi-page, print single page, animation, digital illustration, digital photography and interactive design which includes Web sites, user-interface, curriculum and kiosk design.

The deadline for the entries is 28 April 2006 and the award ceremony will take place in Toronto, Canada on 20 July. The winning entry will receive $5 000 cash prize and a selection of Adobe software products.

"The Adobe Design Achievement Awards celebrates student creativity and reinforces Adobe`s continued commitment to design education," says Melissa Dyrdahl, Adobe senior VP of corporate marketing and communication.

"It is truly inspiring to see how this event dissolves boundaries between cultures and unleashes great talent through the convergence of technology and creative arts," she says.

The competition has extended its scope to 24 countries. Students from SA, Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Nederlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and Taiwan will be participating in the competition for the first time next year.

Students will submit projects using Adobe design environments including Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Adobe Video Collection 2.5, which will be reviewed and scored by an independent panel of six judges.
