Storage specialist Freecom has launched a new USB 2.0 PCI card with two ports. Now available in South Africa from sole distributor Square One Solutions group, the FA-1 card offers a cost-effective entry-level solution as an alternative to the five-port version launched late last year.
The FA-1 two-port card supports both the USB 1.1 standard with data transmission of up to 12 Mbps, as well as the current Hi-Speed USB 2.0 standard with speeds up to 480 Mbps.
It can be easily installed under all Windows systems from Windows 98SE onwards. The drivers required for one-off installation for Windows 98SE, ME and Windows 2000 are enclosed with the card as is the web-link for the XP driver download site (from the Microsoft website).
The FA-1 can be used to quickly and easily connect external devices to the PC. The card totally converts the speed of external devices such as CD-RW or DVD, to the required level.
USB 2.0, with its high-speed capability and downward compatibility with USB 1.1, has increasingly established itself as a new standard for connecting external peripherals and the FA-1 now provides an affordable and easy upgrade to the new standard.
The PPSL (Power Protection System Lockout) technology used by Freecomprotects both the system and all of the connected USB devices, from surges in the electricity supply.
