M-IT, the managed services division of EOH, successfully implemented a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) skills development programme, in conjunction with the ISETT SETA. The programme was launched in January 2011 and comprises 46 learners from M-IT and other companies within the EOH group.
Skills development has become a part of the company's culture in most businesses as an ongoing means of addressing the prevalent skills shortage in South Africa. “MCITP, formerly known as MSCE, helps to validate a candidate's knowledge in using Microsoft products and solutions. The course is designed to be relevant in today's rapidly changing IT marketplace by helping learners to utilise evolving technologies, fine-tune troubleshooting skills and improve job satisfaction,” says Zunaid Mayet, MD of M-IT.
The MCITP programme includes a combination of classroom-based training for the major centres, as well as e-learning for smaller regions. “It comprises five modules that are spread across the duration of the programme, with our first set of learners expected to graduate in August 2011,” says Mayet.
The MCITP accreditation programme provides upward mobility to M-IT server administrators in cloud infrastructure support. “The resulting skills pool will expand M-IT's ability to support its large virtual infrastructure that has shown tremendous growth in the past two years. MCITP will also provide validation and recognition of M-IT's knowledge and skills in the design and deployment of virtualised solutions using Windows Server 2008 R2 in an enterprise organisation,” explains Sam Sibeko, Operations Director of M-IT.
EOH Group HR Director says the MCITP skills development programme will go a long way in aiding this vision through development and upliftment. She concludes in saying that EOH firmly believes that people make it happen.
