The Financial Mail has ranked EOH second in the IT sector and 15th overall in its Top Empowerment Companies (TEC) survey for 2010.
The survey noted that last year EOH was featured in 69th position and has now moved to the Top 20. “IT group EOH has registered a remarkable jump within the TEC survey,” it continued.
EOH first embarked on a broad-based empowerment strategy in 2004 by allocating 15% of its shares to black employees.
The TEC survey comments on the fact that EOH features heavyweight politician-cum-businessman Mathews Phosa, who serves as chairman of the board. Phosa leads a board that has a 50% adjusted black representation, while this stands at 41.67% at the executive management level, says the survey.
“EOH has always placed significant emphasis on its broad-based black economic empowerment status and we remain committed to the empowerment goals of this country,” says HR director Pumeza Bam.
“And, as a company that partners for life, both with customers and partners, our empowerment status is a powerful advantage for all concerned,” she adds.
September 2009 saw EOH report annual turnover of R1.25 billion, ranking the company as one of the top five IT service providers in Southern Africa.
Its continued focus on transformation, corporate social investment and the other pillars of BEE will only assist in further positioning the company as a major contributor to the IT industry.
