Epson colours up printer market with DURABrite

Johannesburg, 13 Feb 2004

Epson has developed a means by which users can make their images last longer. The company has released a pigment-based ink called DURABrite made from insoluble particles of resin-coated pigment. The latest technology is now available through Advanced Consumables Technologies (ACT).

DURABrite has been formulated to strengthen ink and increase the shelf-life of images. The technologies have been designed with fade resistance and water resistance to ensure prints maintain their original colour for up to 80 years.

"This latest technological advancement from Epson has several key strengthening features: the resin layer that encapsulates the ink makes it water resistant and the ink itself is locked onto the paper`s surface during the printing process and not absorbed. This distinguishes it from other dye-based inks which are absorbed into the fibre of the paper," explains Laetitia van den Berg, Epson product manager at ACT.

ACT is an authorised supplier of Epson products. Van den Berg believes this latest research and development within ink is a significant contribution towards the growth and maturity of the African printer market.

"ACT has conducted extensive training on this new technology for our reseller base through the ACT training academy. DURABrite is a mid-range technology with separate colour ink tank technology, which assists with the cost-effectiveness of printing colours. This advancement translates into real value for the client and we view this as a very positive development in the printing process in general," Van den Berg concludes.
