EPSON SA launches new departmental laser printer

EPSON SA has announced the local availability of a new addition to its range of laser printers, the EPL-N2700, designed to offer a cost effective printing solution for demanding workgroup or departmental users, and printing at a fast print speed of 27 pages per minute.

"Laser printers have traditionally dominated the market as desktop printers, but now the trend is moving into the high end arena," says Hans Dummer, EPSON SA`s general manager. "The needs of users have defined new technologies for EPSON products, which is evident with the advanced options that are available as standard features on the EPL-N2700."

Dummer points out that the EPL-N2700 can handle a large volume of prints, producing high quality output at high speeds, on virtually any paper type. "Users can also increase the sizes of their prints from A4 to A3, as well as A5 making it a useful tool for all company departments such as financial and administration.

He says that the printer`s 100Base TX network connectivity enables the printer to be connected to the back of a network, allowing it to function as an effective departmental laser. The EPL-N2700 provides specially developed printer drivers for Windows 3.1x, Windows95, Windows98, and Windows NT4.0.

"The EPL-N2700 features an advanced 166MHz Reduced Instruction Set (RISC) processor, which ensures that documents are processed efficiently," he adds. "The RISC processor drives EPSON`s printer controller, and allows for the engine speed to be maintained on complex page layouts, providing 1200 dots per inch (dpi) output."

Dummer goes on to say that the EPL-N2700 also features EPSON`s RITech technology, which eliminates jagged edges, to produce consistent and accurate text and graphics prints.

EPSON has included advanced paper handling features on the EPL-N2700, such as two standard input sources, a 250 sheet multi purpose tray and a 500 sheet paper cassette, he explains. "These input sources, enable printing on different media types, without manually swapping trays, whilst a 500 sheet face down output capacity manages printed jobs."

The EPL-N2700 has 16MB memory, which can be upgraded to 64MB. "With the upgrade of the memory capacity, the printer has a standard electronic sorting (Send-Once-Print-Many) option, which means that a document only needs to be sent once from the client workstation and processed once by the printer - thereafter, the printer stores the print job in memory, enabling subsequent jobs to be printed at full engine speed," he adds.

The EPL-N2700 also has an optional duplex unit, which provides two-sided printing. Dummer explains that the duplex unit improves presentation, reduces costs by using paper more effectively, saving on storage and printing costs. "There is also an option of either a 10-bin or 5-bin mailbox provides a variety of efficient paper finishing options."

The EPL-N2700 will come in two pre-configured models:

EPL-N2700 (standard model) with a 250 Sheet Multi Purpose Paper Tray, 500 Sheet Paper Cassette and a 500 sheet face-down tray is competitively priced at R 19,495 including VAT.

EPL-N2700T same specification as the standard model with an additional 500 Sheet Paper Cassette, 2500 Sheet Large-Capacity Paper Feeder, and duplex unit is competitively priced at R 37,795 including VAT.
