Epson supports Android KitKat native printing for easy mobile printing

Over 100 Epson printer models print wirelessly from Android 4.4 smartphones and tablets.

Johannesburg, 22 May 2014

Committed to simple wireless printing anywhere, anytime, Epson has announced support for Android Printing, the native printing platform introduced in Android*1 KitKat (version 4.4). With Android Printing, Android device users can effortlessly print documents, photos, Web pages and e-mails - without the need for a dedicated printing app - to any discoverable Epson printer.

Over 100 new and legacy Epson Connect-enabled printers and all-in-ones now offer built-in printing support for the latest Android smartphones and tablets from manufacturers including Google, HTC and Samsung. Epson also supports a current range of print-enabled Google Play apps, including Chrome, Drive, Gallery, Gmail, Photos and Quickoffice. In order for Android users to step into this interconnected world, all they need to do is to download the free Epson iPrint app.

"Epson is proud to support the new built-in Android Printing feature introduced in the new KitKat 4.4 operating system," said Kelvin Reynolds, General Manager of Epson South Africa. "It's a major step forward for Android users and developers alike. Now, KitKat-enabled Android devices will be able to easily print to new and legacy Epson printers from both pre-installed Google apps as well as new apps currently under development. This means a new generation of Android users will realise the benefit of mobile printing with just a few taps."

Epson printers available in South Africa that support Android KitKat Native are the Epson Stylus Photo PX730WD, Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4525DNF, Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4535DWF, and Epson's current range of Ink Tank System printers, including the Epson L355, Epson L550 and the Epson M200.
