Ericsson clinches China Mobile deal

Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson says it has received its largest managed contract in China to date, from China Mobile's regional subsidiary, China Mobile Hebei, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Under the three-year contract, Ericsson will provide field maintenance for China Mobile Hebei's 22 000 base stations throughout the Hebei province, which has around 70 million inhabitants, Ericsson said.

The deal could give Ericsson a number of follow-up contracts from China Mobile's units in other provinces, the company's head of Greater China, Mats Olsson, told Dow Jones Newswires.

IBM warned of contract failures

The Texas Department of Information Resources warned IBM on Friday that its $863 million centre outsourcing contract with the state is in jeopardy, according to HardOCP.

A seven-page "notice to cure" from Texas CIO Karen Robinson asserts that IBM has repeatedly underperformed and undelivered on the seven-year contract signed in 2006.

The notice gives the company 30 days to fix the problems.

Infosys closes Thailand outsourcing centre

Infosys Technologies, India's number two software services exporter, has shut a small outsourcing facility in Bangkok, one of the three it had bought from Royal Philips Electronics, its CEO said on Friday, reports The India Times.

"This is a very small operation...that was why it was shut down," Senapathy Gopalakrishnan told reporters on the sidelines of an industry event.

The centre in Bangkok had fewer than 50 people, and after its closure the work has been transferred to other centres in China, Philippines and India.
