Ericsson Enterprise has expanded its telecoms distribution channel in southern Africa - for five years the exclusive domain of Dimension Data - to now include Bridge Interactive.

Ericsson Enterprise business manager Birgitta T"ornqvist Ringsj"o confirms this. "We signed a distribution contract with Bridge Interactive in October, because we want to increase our sales and market share in SA."

Belinda Wagner, DiData marketing manager, network solutions, says the company does not see this as a major issue. "It is commonly done among multinationals to have various channel partners. Competition is healthy."

Whereas DiData`s direct sales staff touch blue-chip companies, this move sees Bridge moving in on DiData`s channel partner territory and gaining advantage as it moves up the value chain.

Bridge Interactive was formerly a reseller for Ericsson via DiData. The company has been in existence under its current name for two years, but has operated in the telecoms market, mostly with a focus on Ericsson, since 1996.

Under the new dispensation, it already has 18 resellers, and is looking for more. It distributes Ericsson PBXs, call centres and other telephony, and its portfolio includes hardware and software.
