Ericsson revamps network convergence

Network solutions provider, Ericsson has rolled out its SSR 8000 family of Smart Services Routers (SSR), a key component of its fourth generation of IP networking solutions it introduced this year, reports Reuters.

The solution provides operators with a simple, smart and scalable solution for converged networks.

As a consolidated platform for both fixed and mobile network applications, the SSR enables complete network convergence so subscribers can access services from any device or location.

Telecom Paper says the SSR is used for both fixed and mobile network applications.

Ericsson states in a release that operators will need to handle unprecedented amounts of network traffic as more data-driven devices are connected to networks, according to CNS Magazine.

Michael Howard, principal analyst, carrier and data centre networks at Infonetics Research, says: “[Network] requirements have grown, driving the need for a new round of equipment that can support new applications and revenue generation of fixed and mobile broadband segments, characterised by not only video traffic, but high call signalling volumes.”
