The new business continuity alliance led by electronic data storage specialist e-Storage Direct (eSD), in conjunction with DataPro and Enterprise Storage Solutions (ESS), has launched its Storage Service Provision (SSP) model in Rosebank.
Paul Muller, special project manager of eSD, says: "The SSP has traditionally been an extension of the ISP and ASP model. However, this extension has not necessarily worked and we have learnt from this by creating a unique partnership with specialists in their field."
The technology behind the model is ESS`s Ubiquistore product. Gareth Donald, technical sales consultant of ESS, emphasises that the product is hardware platform independent, can backup open file systems and is secure over a network or the Internet.
The SSP solution, to be marketed by eSD, will have two offerings: Capacity-on-Demand, which will allow clients to buy additional disk space with no capital outlay, and Multi-Tiered-Storage for off-site mirroring and replication. Both offerings will have additional add-ons such as redundancy and backup. The cost will start at around R200 per managed gigabyte.
Speaking at the SSP launch, DataPro MD Douglas Reed predicted that outsourced solutions would show extensive growth in SA. Reed said the new solution would complement DataPro`s planned move into the market, accelerated by the recent purchase of BTG Net.
Muller concluded: "We are technically selling insurance. With the data explosion and greater reliance on automation, the value of data has been dramatically enhanced. Lose that and lose the business."
