Enterprise Storage Solution (ESS), a division of storage specialist Maxtec Limited, has provided Satellite Data Networks (SDN), a premier local Internet service provider (ISP), with a leading-edge storage solution that will virtualise its storage environment and streamline its business activities.
An industry leader in value-added network services, SDN independently designs, implements and manages a satellite facility for international Internet access. To keep abreast with the latest technology, it develops strategic relationships with IT/Internet companies. It was in this regard that ESS installed a 1.2 terabyte UbiquiStor 200 beta solution into SDN`s existing legacy system, reviving the outdated solution with a modern, up-to-date storage infrastructure.
UbiquiStor provides commerce and industry with a highly competitive solution able to bridge the divide between storage and IP networking.
"The solution assists organisations to leverage their existing IT infrastructure, irrespective of the hardware or operating systems deployed in-house. On the back of its IPStor software from FalconStor, UbiquiStor is able to centralise, virtualise and provide storage over IP using standard industry components," says Andrew Brook, ESS Technologist.
SDN provides clients with a complete range of corporate Internet connectivity, guaranteed Internet storage capacity as well as industry-leading value-added network services that require a managed and scalable storage infrastructure.
UbiquiStor offers a cost-effective system to SDN, in that it accommodates both SAN and NAS facilities, enabling the ISP to integrate different types of storage systems into one solution. This also allows the company to offer additional services such as backup facilities, and freeing extra storage capacity for its clients.
"The product is extremely scalable and integrates with almost all vendor and technical specifications. Its hardware-independent function supports any transport medium such as SCSI, Ethernet, gigabyte Ethernet, etc, without a converter box. It favours new standing innovations like iSCSI and Infiniband as they are released," says Omar Jhavry, SDN network and security services manager. "This product offers local mirroring, snapshot, serverless backup, zero impact backup as well as off-site replication. Since it supports both SAN and NAS environments, we can integrate all our storage management requirements into one single management console."
The marvel of the UbiquiStor solution is that it delivers additional return on existing equipment whereas old SCSI attached arrays would be obsolete in a SAN environment. This allows IT managers to expand SAN environments utilising SCSI attached disks in the UbiquiStor server.
"It is our intention to radically redefine high-quality service for Internet connectivity. UbiquiStor benefits not only our company, but also our clients," concluded Jhavry.
