The solution, called Existing Systems Workbench (ESW) for Euro, enables information technology (IT) organisations to manage dual-base currencies, to move to a common European currency and to take advantage of the strategic business opportunities the euro affords.
Some technology industry analysts expect that adapting IT systems to become euro-compliant will prove to be more complex than the year 2000 computer problem, and estimate the overall cost to businesses in Europe to be more than $100 billion. Importantly, costs will also be incurred by the trading partners of European companies.
"Viasoft`s euro solution combines both services and technology to help organisations manage the currency changeover," says Jorge Borralho, Mainframe Account Manager at Usko Software`s Systems Solutions Division. "It incorporates advanced currency conversion technology into Viasoft`s highly successful ESW, a comprehensive, integrated toolset for managing existing mainframe systems effectively.
"The tools allow organisations to translate currency fields in data files, programs, screens and reports between national currencies (through triangulation), as well as between euro and national currencies."
Viasoft`s Euro Solution Manager, Chris Pickles, warns that as the January 1 start date for the euro draws near, IT organisations face the task of finding implementation strategies that reduce adaptation time and cost.
"Viasoft`s euro solution provides fast and efficient euro conversion technology and services that users can implement today," he says.
Usko Software`s Borralho says Viasoft`s euro technology is unique. "It combines the power of ESW with advanced technology specifically designed for euro conversion. This enables companies to automatically apply consistent conversion rules to monetary fields across all applications. As a result, companies can dramatically reduce conversion costs and achieve uniform currency conversion across their enterprise."
