Evaluation based on completeness of vision and ability to execute

Johannesburg, 25 Nov 2008

EMC, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced it has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Mid-range Enterprise Disk Arrays” report by Gartner [1]. Positioning in the Leaders quadrant is based on a company's ability to execute and its completeness of vision.

Gartner describes mid-range disk storage market leaders as having: “The highest scores for their ability to execute and completeness of vision. A mid-range disk array storage vendor in the Leaders quadrant has the market share, credibility, and marketing and sales capabilities needed to drive the acceptance of new technologies. They demonstrate a clear understanding of market needs; they are innovators and thought leaders; and, they have well-articulated plans that customers and prospects can use when designing their storage infrastructures and strategies. In addition, they have a presence in the five major geographical regions, consistent financial performance, and broad platform support.”

EMC most recently demonstrated its ability to deliver innovation to customers with the introduction of the latest generation of its market-leading EMC CLARiiON family of networked storage systems, the CLARiiON CX4, in August 2008. The CLARiiON CX4 series offers customers a multitude of built-in features that are ideal for virtual server environments - including VMware infrastructure. The innovations built into the CLARiiON CX4 include Flash drives, more flexible connectivity, twice the performance of previous CLARiiON systems, virtual provisioning (also known as thin provisioning) and enhanced security. These features can dramatically reduce the total cost of ownership by using less energy, improving storage utilisation, improving price/performance, and streamlining management, while providing proven investment protection over multiple generations of platform technology.

Additionally, the EMC Celerra family of unified storage systems continues to achieve significant market traction, growing revenue over 40% year-over-year during each of the last three fiscal quarters. The strength of its flexible design, advanced functionality and ease-of-use features enables customers to control costs by consolidating and tiering distributed server and storage resources. The EMC Celerra platform assures enterprise-class reliability and data protection across multiple data types and connectivity protocols.

“It's an honour to be recognised in the Leaders quadrant,” said Gerhard van der Merwe Country Manager of EMC South Africa. “EMC believes the CLARiiON CX4 and Celerra family remain far ahead of the pack in terms of providing customers with scalability, management features, energy efficiency and ease-of-use. We're pleased that Gartner positioned EMC in this report for our completeness of vision and ability to execute on that vision. EMC will continue to dedicate our resources and listen to our customers to bring innovative features that customers need from their mid-range platforms.”
