The latest edition to Compaq's Evo line is packed with mainstream computing features. The Evo N400c, which replaces the company's Armada M300 notebook, is an ultra-thin, ultra-light, ultra-portable notebook equipped with limitless capabilities for the mobile business user.
That's according to Amanda Saurma-Jeltsch, Compaq product manager at SDD. Unique to this notebook is the Wireless LAN Multiport, which attaches to the laptop via a connection port in its lid. It also supports an optional Bluetooth module and a video conferencing camera.
"The MultiPort basically offers you another means for adding features to your notebook instead of the typical single PCMCIA slot. Compaq has gone this route due to the many wireless technologies expected to hit the market in the near future. The N400c allows users the freedom to upgrade to whichever wireless technology satisfies their future needs," explains Saurma-Jeltsch.
Weighing a mere 1.5kg, the N400c fits easily into a briefcase. The chassis has useful ports and dedicated buttons, including two USB ports, four programmable quick-launch buttons, an exceptionally comfortable, full-size keyboard and a bright 12.1-inch TFT display. Transform it into a desktop replacement by slipping it into the optional expansion base, which gives you ports such as PS/2, as well as two modular bays for secondary storage drives like DVD. "You can even fill both bays with additional batteries for long trips away from power points," she adds.
Intel's mobile low-voltage Pentium III 700MHz processor powers the N400c. The standard offer of 128MB of SDRAM can be easily increased to 512MB. The 12.1-inch TFT XGA display is driven to its 1024 x 768 resolution by ATI's Mobility M video subsystem with 8MB of memory supporting Windows 2000. Storage is provided on a 20GB hard drive or by using an external floppy drive. A speaker on the undercarriage supplies audio for the N400c.
Compaq's Evo N400c is a one-spindle notebook which enables buyers to choose their additional ports and hot swappable drive bays or MultiBay.
"Based on its impressive features, particularly the MultiPort, and the service and support offered by Compaq's Evo N400c, we expect sales of this notebook to soar over the next few months," she concludes.
