Execsoft`s free undelete tool for NT

Johannesburg, 07 Jun 1999

Executive Software has released a freeware version of its Emergency Undelete file recovery tool for Windows NT. It is available from

www.execsoft.co.uk

. Emergency Undelete recovers accidentally deleted files directly from any NTFS or FAT disk and can even recover files that were deleted prior to its installation.

Dave Terespolsky, MD of local distributor, Server Tools, says: "The Windows Recycle Bin captures files that are deleted from Windows NT Explorer only. Files deleted through other programs such as File Manager, from the command line, or from within applications, are not sent to the Recycle Bin. In addition, files that are deleted across a Windows NT network from one computer to another also bypass the Recycle Bin and are permanently deleted."

According to a study done by data recovery specialists Ontrack Data International, five times more data loss is caused by human error than is caused by computer viruses. In addition, the study estimates that 80% of tape backups fail or are not available at the critical moment of need. This is due to worn out or corrupted tapes or the tape heads having failed to record the needed files.

Emergency Undelete is one module of the full Undelete data protection product. The full product provides an enhanced "Recovery Bin" that captures and stores files deleted from all sources.

Undelete is compatible with Intel and Alpha versions of Windows NT 4.0. The workstation version of the product needs to be installed on all workstations in the network in order for the Server version to connect to them and be used for network-wide file recovery. Undelete supports all Windows NT security permissions and privileges. Server Tools is a subsidiary of Dimension Data.
