Mark Lewis, president of EMC's Information Intelligence Group (IIG), will leave the unit in favour of driving overall company strategy, as he takes up the position of chief strategy officer for the Information Infrastructure Products Business.
Speaking today at EMC's Momentum 2010 event, in Lisbon, Portugal, Lewis said he would leverage his experience across EMC and the technology industry to help EMC customers accelerate their journey to the private cloud.
IIG CTO Jeetu Patel is confident the move will go far in consolidating the company's focus on cloud computing.
Patel says EMC is in a unique position to leverage the company's resources from security at RSA; to virtualisation at VMware; and governance, risk and compliance from its IIG division.
He argues that there is a need for assurance that the cloud can be a secure solution. Patel believes Lewis' background in the information unit will bode well for the development of a unified strategy that will deliver a secure and compliant cloud computing solution.
Lewis has been with EMC since 2002 and has held several roles within the company, including chief technology officer and chief development officer, during which time he also formed EMC's Technology Ventures Group and the EMC Innovation Network.
Meanwhile, Rick Devenuti will take over from Lewis as president of IIG. Devenuti served as IIG's COO for the past two years.
