US firm Expand Networks, which last month grew its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) operations by opening a South African office, has signed up its latest local customer.
The company, which targets the application acceleration over the wide area network (WAN) arena, has deployed its Compass platform at Corobrik. The multi-service Compass platform will support Corobrik`s migration from JD Edwards thin client servers to Web-based applications to its sites across SA, using its low speed WAN.
"Corobrik has the largest distribution network in SA, with over 40 branch offices and over 2 000 employees," said Expand in a statement. The company realised that a move to Web-based applications was essential to improve productivity and ensure the future growth and competitiveness of the business.
"Compass is an open multi-service platform that, as in the case of Corobrik, provides enterprises with a solid framework to address today`s key business drivers and resolve the challenges of their strategic IT initiatives," said Adam Davison, VP sales, EMEA, Expand Networks.
Although a migration project served the best interests of the business, it also introduced a new set of challenges, said the company.
"The strain that would be placed on the WAN posed a problem to application performance for remote users, which would be compounded further as the company`s plans included moving all remaining applications to Web-based solutions. The cost of upgrading WAN bandwidth was too prohibitive in SA to be a real consideration," it stated.
Dimension Data SA, a local Expand channel partner, recommended and deployed Expand Accelerators to ensure optimal network performance, user productivity and business continuity.
Commenting on Expand`s growth in the region, Davison said: "The recent opening of a dedicated office in SA has galvanised our efforts following the launch of the Compass platform and the associated Compass Partner Programme for our channel partners. Our belief in the growing opportunity for our WAN/WAFS technology will be further cemented in the next few weeks when Expand will appoint a sales director to build and extend on the success of Corobrik."
