Oz gets free-to-air news channel
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has introduced a 24-hour news channel that is the first free-to-air news channel in the country, CBC reports.
It is expected to provide stiff competition to existing cable news channel Sky, which is jointly owned by PBL Media, Seven Media Group and Rupert Murdoch's Sky Broadcasting.
News 24's managing director Mark Scott says the news channel is a natural extension of ABC's news services, which include a Web site, TV and radio news available across Australia.
NTC rejects PA renewal
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has denied the request of VOM Broadcasting Corporation for the extension or renewal of its provisional authority (PA) to install, operate and maintain a wireless cable television system with the use of multi-channel multi-point distribution system, writes Manila Bulletin.
In a unanimous order signed by NTC commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba and deputy commissioners Jaime Fortes Jr and Douglas Michael Mallillin, VOM's motion for extension or renewal of its PA was denied for lack of merit.
“After painstaking examination of the facts and evidence presented, this Commission finds no cogent reason to extend the Provisional Authority of VOM since it failed to comply with the terms and conditions of its PA.” the NTC said.
