F5 Networks has introduced the F5 BIG-IP 8900 hardware platform, a move it says will enable organisations to integrate advanced application delivery networking (ADN) functionality and consolidate IT infrastructures.

Roma Smith, director at EnterWeb, distributor of F5 Networks in sub-Saharan Africa, says the platform enables large enterprises and service providers to support extremely high levels of application traffic and integrate optimisation and capabilities.

Says Smith: “IT organisations require flexible solutions that consolidate legacy equipment and establish a forward-looking application delivery environment which can be aligned to business goals.” He adds that advanced application delivery controllers help support the changing demands of businesses by optimising IT infrastructure.

According to Smith, the 8900 system combined with F5's unified TMOS architecture provides customers with more options in incorporating ADN functionality to customise application delivery environments.

The 8900 device offers 12Gbps of L7 throughput, 58 000 SSL transactions per second, and 8Gbps of hardware compression. According to the company it will enable a functional and physical consolidation of application delivery infrastructures, reducing management expenses and TCO.
