Facebook Celeb hoax

There's anger on Facebook after a Web site that had threatened to reveal naked photos of Emma Watson was uncovered as a viral marketing hoax.

The EmmaYouAreNext.com now redirects to the front page of a social media company in the US called Rantic. The Web site was blamed for the threat to Watson with a countdown towards the release of nude pictures.

Robotic suit

Researchers at Harvard University are developing a robotic suit that makes carrying heavy loads easier for soldiers, who sometimes have to lug around more than 45kg of gear and equipment when on patrol. The robotic exosuit could also be modified to assist people with physical disabilities, the researchers said.

The programmable suit acts in parallel with the body's muscles and tendons, mimicking the way these body parts move, according to Conor Walsh, an assistant professor at Harvard's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.

Huawei investment

Telecommunications equipment maker Huawei said it would invest more than $4 billion in fixed technology research and development in the next three years.

The Shenzhen-based company said investing in fixed broadband technology will be important given the rise of high-resolution video technology, which, for instance, powers 4K television sets as well as commercial big operations that also consume significant bandwidth.

Cuddling app

If you're interested in cuddling with a stranger, there's now an app for that. Think online dating, but without expectations for dating or anything more.

Cuddlr shows the names, pictures and number of up-votes and down-votes -- users rate each other after they cuddle -- of users within walking distance of you. Tapping on a photo sends a cuddle request, and the recipient then has 15 minutes to accept or reject. If they accept, you can send them a message, and you're able to track each of your locations on a map.

Virtual reality

Here are two words that don't seem to cohere: newspaper and virtual reality.

Yet The Des Moines Register has completed a virtual reality project called Harvest of Change using Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to explore an old-word place, a virtual tour of - strangely enough - an Iowa farm.
