Facebook unveils messenger app
BlackBerry has had its own messaging service for quite a while now. Facebook is now jumping into the fray with its own model. It will work on Apple devices and smartphones equipped with the Android mobile operating system.
The new messenger mobile app brings quick chat with friends, creating group chats, sharing location or photos with friends and much more, says News Den.
Currently, it does not integrate with Facebook Web Chatapplication. But users can access Facebook inbox directly from the new mobile app.
One of the key features of this new mobile app is the alert system, which allows users to receive alerts for new messages.
The real advantages of using the new Facebook Messenger app are that it includes SMS (texting) as an option when sending a message, and it draws phone numbers from users' Facebook connections rather than contacts list in their iPhone, reducing the chance that they put an outdated or incorrect phone number, according to PCMag.
