JSE-listed IT services and solutions specialist Faritec has committed to becoming the clear leader in virtualisation over the next two years.
The company regards this innovative area of the ICT industry as strategic to its business.
Gordon Love, Regional Executive of Faritec, says virtualisation is gaining momentum and becoming a key driver behind many of Faritec's customer solutions. "With our superior skills base and reliable track record of delivery in this area, Faritec is able to offer companies tangible, measurable value," he says.
"We are confident that our focus on virtualisation will be a strong differentiator and that we will reap the rewards of this decision in the years to come."
Although Faritec has maintained a healthy focus on this discipline over the past few years, it is experiencing an increasing demand from organisations looking to virtualisation as a way to enable an on-demand dynamic enterprise. By analysing and understanding the customer's environment, Faritec is able to assist in the transformation process.
"Thanks to shrinking budgets and escalating demands on IT performance, IT departments are being compelled to do more with the same or less resource, while simultaneously keeping costs to a bare minimum. Virtualisation is a cost-effective, risk-averse and quick solution to these challenges," Love says.
"By consolidating multiple workloads onto far less physical hardware, we are able to reduce the costs of running a data centre (impacting real estate, power and cooling requirements) as well as those of administering the hardware and software."
Furthermore, virtualisation has the ability to securely backup and migrate the entire virtual environments, which helps eliminate planned downtime and ensures that clients' IT environments can recover far more quickly from unplanned outages.
Faritec has made a significant investment in developing its virtualisation competence and skill across South Africa.
"We currently have a virtual team of more than 22 skilled specialists across our business units, capable of designing, planning, and implementing traditional and virtual computing infrastructures," Love says. "Our expertise spans Linux, Unix and Windows, drawing on the specific benefits of our partnerships with HP, IBM, Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, SAP and Riverbed."
One of VMware's few Authorised Consulting Partners, Faritec is trained and certified to deliver consulting services and solutions which leverage VMware's leading technology. "Combined with our knowledge of several other virtual technologies such as Microsoft's Hyper-V and Citrix's Xen server, this indicates that we are well on our way to becoming the most qualified and sought-after South African partner in the virtualisation market," Love says.
