Egis and MESSAGEmanager Solutions have partnered to distribute a new Fax over IP (FOIP) software system.

"Market research shows that there is a requirement and opportunity for IP-based fax services, which is why we decided to distribute MESSAGEmanager IP Fax," says Jacques Slabber, director at Egis.

Ivor Livingston, CEO at MESSAGEmanager Solutions says, "Everyone is moving towards IP based services and many people want to use IP fax."

According to Livingston, the product is endorsed by Cisco and SAP, and can integrate with most Microsoft products, such as Outlook. He says the new IP fax system is software-based and connects both over IP and through standard PSTN systems. The IP system runs over the T-38 protocol.

"Old fax systems require dedicated fax boards. We believe there is a need in the SA market for not only the most cost-effective system but also to be able to use existing infrastructure," says Slabber.

Livingston says a software fax system such as this could save up to 40% on their telecoms costs. He says this is what happened to the City of Melbourne, which implemented the system last year.

MESSAGEmanager Solutions are also looking at bringing other products to SA, including a voice mail system, Voice XML.
