FBI seizes server in WikiLeaks probe
The American FBI has seized a server in Texas as part of its hunt for the groups behind the pro-WikiLeaks denial-of-service attacks unleashed in December against PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, and others, according to a report, notes CNet.
During a 16 December raid, agents seized a server at Tailor Made Services, a Dallas-based co-location, or server-hosting facility, and copied two of its hard drives, according to The Smoking Gun Web site, which said it has obtained the FBI affidavit in support of a search warrant for the seizure.
It's not clear what was found on the drives, The Smoking Gun reported, saying search warrant records showed agents were authorised to seize material related to the attacks or to other illegal activities involving the groups Anonymous or 4chan.
Server blamed for Hotmail outage
Microsoft says it has fixed a problem with its Windows Live Hotmail service that temporarily deleted the e-mail of more than 17 000 users, reveals PCWorld.
The trouble began on 30 December when the e-mail in 17 355 accounts disappeared. This week, a Microsoft executive wrote that the company had identified the technical glitch and restored e-mail to the affected accounts.
"Customers impacted temporarily lost the contents of their mailbox through the course of mailbox load balancing between servers," wrote Chris Jones, a corporate vice-president with Windows Live Engineering, on a company blog.
Iomega adds cloud to server
Iomega revealed that it plans to add its new Personal Cloud feature to its flagship four-bay NAS server, the ix4-200d Cloud Edition, says ZDNet.
Iomega Personal Cloud is a subscription-free personal cloud service that lets people access data on their NAS server from anywhere in the world, via the Internet. In addition to remote file access, it provides file-sharing and VPN-like access.
The ix4-200d Cloud Edition, which ships in March, is similar to its dual-bay brother, the StorCenter ix2-200, but differentiates itself by offering more storage (up to 12TB), more Raid configurations, and two Gigabit ports for more consistent performance during heavy loads.
