FCC tackles broadcast spectrum issues
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released its broadcast and broadband implementation schedule for 2010, writes Broadcasting & Cable.
Edward Lazarus, FCC chief of staff, says the schedule would include the start for the spectrum reclamation plans.
The plans are to include more than 60 rulemakings on broadcast spectrum, auctioning of the D-Block, mobile roaming, gateway devices, pole attachments, broadband data, special access, rights-of-way, and wholesale competition.
Telvue reveals IPTV
Telvue has revealed the Princeton HyperCaster line of Internet protocol television (IPTV) digital broadcasters, states Market Watch.
The system supports up to 20 digital, MPEG-2 or H.264 IP broadcast channels in one box.
“By dramatically reducing the cost and streamlining the ease of management of local origination and leased access channels, Telvue HyperCasters will enable cable and telco companies to leverage community-centric programming as a valued service differentiator not offered by satellite broadcast competitors," says Jesse Lerman, Telvue president and CEO.
ESPN highlights planned for mobiles
ESPN plans to broadcast highlights of premier league matches to mobile phones in the UK, says 3G.co.uk.
The deal was made with the FA providing them with broadcast highlights from the 380 games of the Barclays Premier League.
Details about how users will pay for the highlights and which operator or mobile phones will be supported have not been released.
