Female entrepreneurs in the ICT field are being offered an opportunity to attend a professional development programme in the US, courtesy of The Innovation Hub.

The Hub's Maxum Business Incubator has called for both existing and aspiring ICT entrepreneurs to apply for the programme. It is being offered in collaboration with the International Centre and the University of Maryland Baltimore County's Centre for Women in Information Technology.

Under the initiative, 10 female businesswomen will be afforded an opportunity to visit business incubators in the US, with other ICT players, and shadow successful female ICT practitioners.

They will also be taught how to access venture capital, draw up a business plan and marketing , as well as how to enhance their competitiveness by using technology.

While an initial trip to the US will take place from March to April 2008, the programme will offer support, in the form of and monitoring, to the winning applicants for a two-year period.

Those wanting to apply need to have a history in entrepreneurship, existing computer and business skills, and be fluent in English. Previously-disadvantaged individuals will receive preference.
