FibreCAT N40-DPM - Fujitsu Siemens Computers launches Data Protection Manager (DPM) appliance onto the market

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced the availability of its proven FibreCAT N40i hardware in combination with Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006 as a preinstalled and preconfigured complete package. The disk-based FibreCAT N40-DPM solution is ideal for data backup for Windows file servers. It permits end users to recover lost files on their own and provides virtually continuous data protection. And all this comes at an exceptionally attractive price.

With the FibreCAT N40-DPM, accidentally deleted or damaged files can be recovered easily and quickly, in most cases without the help of an administrator. Users can restore the relevant backup of the lost file themselves from their desktops with a mouseclick. This also makes the FibreCAT-DPM the perfect choice for organizations with lots of branch offices and field sites in which there is limited availability of trained technical staff.

By the same token, the FibreCAT N40-DPM is likewise an unbeatable solution for Windows environments with regard to data backup. The new appliance only requires a full backup of all the data when first deployed: thereafter, only changes to the files are logged and replicated at byte level (in so-called "snapshots"). It is left to the end user whether to take the snapshots once every hour or once a day. Since this allows the data to be backed up more or less continuously, backup windows become a thing of the past. What`s more, the near-continuous data protection also eliminates the risk of losing a whole day`s data. In the worst case, an hour`s data will be lost.

The FibreCAT N40-DPM can be hooked up to Fujitsu Siemens Computers` CentricStor virtual tape appliance, which employs virtual tape technology to support simple and efficient disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) backup processes. In this combination the FibreCAT N40-DPM takes on the role of a kind of "front-end processor" for Windows file servers.

The "Dynamic IT for Branch Office Connection" concept uses the efficiency of the data center for protecting the data in the branch offices of an organization as well. It consists of three pillars, all of which are based on the successful FibreCAT N systems.
