First 2GB USB 2 flash drive
Kanguru Solutions has announced the release of the 2GB KanguruMicro Drive 2.0, a high-speed USB 2.0 flash drive with encryption and compression features, reports www.sacm.co.za.
What is new is that the KanguruMicro incorporates an embedded encryption program, called KanguruGuard, which allows users to create a password-protected portion of their drive. Compression pushes up the drive`s capacity to at least twice the amount of storage space. The USB 2.0 standard provides faster throughput speeds and the drive`s 2GB is believed to be the largest capacity USB flash drive available.
Intel`s fast chips for lower-priced PCs
Intel has unveiled new processors and chipsets designed to bring features found only in higher-priced computers to mainstream corporate and consumer PCs. Reuters reports that Gateway has said it would be the first to sell a PC-based on the new chips, for under $1 000.
The three new Pentium 4 processors include hyper-threading technology, which allows users to do several computing tasks at the same time without the computer slowing down.
The new chips, running at 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8GHz, also have an 800MHz system bus, or pathway between the processors and other parts of the computer.
Online Einstein archives launched
A new Web site provides "the first online access" to Albert Einstein`s manuscripts, held by the Albert Einstein Archives at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and to an extensive archival database. This constitutes the material record of one of the most influential intellects in the modern era, reports URLWire.
The site allows viewing and browsing of approximately 3 000 high-quality digitised images of Einstein`s writings, available for viewing in two sizes: a standard resolution image, as well as a high-resolution image for closer inspection.
The records published in this online version pertain to Albert Einstein`s scientific and non-scientific writings, his professional and personal correspondence, notebooks, travel diaries, personal documents, and third-party items contained in the original collection of Einstein`s personal papers.
